Subject: [IAJGS Leadership] May is Jewish American Heritage Month

May is Jewish Heritage American Month. The (US) White House has issued a proclamation by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. on this month. The proclamation may be read at:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2024/04/30/a-proclamation-on-jewish-american-heritage-month-2024/

The White House has issued such a proclamation every year since 2006. It is issued in recognition of the indelible contributions Jewish Americans have made, and continue to make, to our nation’s history, culture, and society.

“The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of Jewish Americans who helped form the fabric of American history, culture and society.”  See: https://www.jewishheritagemonth.gov/

According to Wikipedia, Why is Jewish Heritage Month in May?

According to the  Library of Congress hosted website, JewishHeritageMonth.gov, May was chosen as the month of Jewish American Heritage Month because of the successful 350th Anniversary Celebration of Jews in America marking the Jewish arrival in New Amsterdam.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_American_Heritage_Month#:~:text=According%20to%20Library%20of%20Congress,Jewish%20arrival%20in%20New%20Amsterdam.
