The Jewish Community of Iran - Sunday, February 21 at 10:30 a.m.

 




Dr. Henry Alan Green is a Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Miami and is also the founder and Executive Director of Sephardi Voices.


Dr. Lior Sternfeld is an Assistant Professor of History and Jewish Studies at Penn State University and author of:



Dr. Lina Samimy, a retired Coral Gables physician and artist who was born in Iran.

Just in time for Purim – the celebration originated by the Jews of Persia – comes “The Jewish Community in Iran,” part of the “A Slice of Jewish Life” series presented by Temple Beth Am and the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Miami.

The program will take place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, February 21 on Zoom.

The moderator will be Professor Henry Green of the University of Miami, who is the International Director of Sephardi Voices. He will interview Dr. Lina Samimy, a physician and artist from Coral Gables, about her Iranian heritage. Dr. Samimy was born in Iran and left in the wake of the 1979 revolution there.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Lior Sternfeld, Assistant Professor of History and Jewish Studies at Penn State University’s College of Liberal Arts. A social historian of the modern Middle East, Sternfeld is the author of the book “Between Iran and Zion: Jewish Histories of Twentiety-Century Iran.” He examines Zionism and constitutionalism against the backdrop of Iranian nationalism, the development and integration of Jewish communities in Iran into the nation-building projects of the last century.
